At Fort Tryon Rehab Center, we celebrate the cultures, traditions, and people that make our community so wonderfully rich. This past month, our residents were treated to two unforgettable events — a Mother’s Day celebration full of music, flowers, and pampering, and a Haitian Flag Day that filled the halls with pride and joy.
Mother’s Day: Roses, Music, and a Little Pampering

Our Mother’s Day celebration was nothing short of spectacular. The common room was transformed into a beautiful floral paradise, with cascading pink, purple, and white wisteria garlands hanging from the ceiling, heart decorations adorning the walls, and fresh sunflowers and roses on every table.
A talented live performer dressed in an elegant red top and white floral gown took center stage, singing and moving through the room, serenading residents up close and filling the space with warmth and joy. “Happy Mother’s Day” and “Super Mom” balloons floated through the room as roses were presented to the female residents in a touching tribute to the mothers in our community. Residents also proudly displayed their own individual handmade Mother’s Day cards, each one unique and filled with heartfelt messages celebrating the love and strength of motherhood.
The celebration didn’t stop there. Residents were also treated to a relaxing spa experience, with soothing facial masks and gentle hand massages — a moment of pure calm and care in the middle of a festive day.
Haitian Flag Day: Honoring Heritage with Pride
On May 18th, we joined Haitians around the world in celebrating Haitian Flag Day — a proud and joyful occasion that honors the blue and red flag that has stood as a symbol of Haitian independence and resilience for over two centuries. At Fort Tryon, the celebration was filled with color, energy, and deep cultural pride.
Mini Haitian flags were distributed throughout the facility, and residents waved them with huge smiles and beaming expressions. A large Haitian flag was paraded through the common room to cheers and excitement, with staff and residents dancing and embracing together. For many of our Haitian residents and staff, this day carries profound personal meaning, and seeing it celebrated within the walls of Fort Tryon made it all the more special.
Celebrating What Matters Most
From the music and roses of Mother’s Day to the flags and dancing of Haitian Flag Day, it was a beautiful reminder of the rich community we have here at Fort Tryon — and how much our residents mean to us.
Stay tuned for more highlights from our vibrant community!
