At Fort Tryon, celebrating culture and community plays an important role in enriching the lives of our residents. Cultural activities give residents the opportunity to reflect on history, celebrate their heritage, and connect with meaningful traditions. These moments also encourage conversation, storytelling, and shared experiences that help residents feel valued and connected to the world around them.
One of the meaningful activities we held was in recognition of Black History Month. During this activity, residents participated in creative and reflective exercises that honored the history, resilience, and achievements of Black individuals who have shaped society. Residents worked on themed coloring and discussion activities that encouraged them to reflect on important historical contributions and share their own stories and experiences.
We also celebrated Dominican Independence Day, recognizing the rich culture and history of the Dominican Republic. Residents enjoyed learning about the significance of the day while embracing the spirit of celebration. One resident proudly shared and displayed the Dominican flag, creating a moment of pride and connection that resonated throughout the room.
Another special moment was our celebration of International Women’s Day, where we honored the strength, beauty, and contributions of women everywhere. Residents were recognized and celebrated for the roles they have played throughout their lives as mothers, caregivers, leaders, and community members. As part of the activity, residents received flowers and participated in a small celebration that acknowledged their strength and life experiences.
