Some places wait for a holiday to throw a party. Not here. Our residents have worn tiaras just because, rocked out under disco lights, and decked the halls out for Father’s Day with balloons, blankets, and homemade crafts. Here’s a look at some of our favorite dress-up days.
Tiara Day
For one afternoon, everyone was royalty. Tiaras went on over headscarves, over glasses, over gray hair pinned up just right, and the smiles that followed were the real prize. Some residents leaned into the glamour, pairing their crown with pearls, bracelets, and their nicest sweater. Others kept it simple and let the tiara do all the talking. One resident paired hers with a plaid shawl and a stack of pearls like she’d been born for it. Another wore hers with a Hello Kitty sweatshirt and didn’t stop grinning the whole time.
Rock and Roll Day
“Born to Rock” wasn’t just something on the wall, it was the whole vibe. Red and black balloons floated near the ceiling, colored lights bounced off the tile floor, and a DJ setup stood ready in the corner. One resident grabbed the microphone and sang along right from his wheelchair, giving the whole room a real concert moment to remember.
Father’s Day
This one was personal. A craft board covered in paper shirts and ties for “Dad” greeted everyone at the entrance, a handmade tribute that took real time and care to put together. Bunches of “Best Dad Ever” balloons floated near the ceiling in shades of blue, and soft Fort Tryon branded blankets were handed out one by one to the fathers, grandfathers, and father figures who call this place home.
In between the gift giving, residents batted a beach ball across a rainbow colored parachute and laughed like kids again. And in one quiet corner, a resident sat cradling a comfort doll, a small moment that said just as much about the day as any balloon or blanket.
