Jungle Vibes, Big Goodbyes, and Good Finds

Goodbyes, jungle parties, and a whole lot of shopping — it’s been quite a month at Fort Tryon. Here’s a look at three events that brought our community together in the best possible ways.

Farewell Pesia: A Well-Earned Retirement

After years of dedicated service at Fort Tryon, Pesia said goodbye in the most fitting way possible, surrounded by the people who know and love her best. The retirement celebration was set up beautifully, with a long banquet table dressed in green satin, eucalyptus centerpieces, and a ceiling full of gold, green, and white balloons. A large “Happy Retirement” banner set the tone for an afternoon of heartfelt tributes.

Pesia wore her tiara and green retirement sash with pride as colleagues gathered to honor her. A formal recognition was presented by facility leadership, and the hugs, tears, and bouquets of flowers that followed said everything words couldn’t. After years of showing up for residents and staff alike, it was Pesia’s turn to be celebrated.

In the Jungle Birthday Bash: A Party to Remember

The room was transformed into a jungle party wonderland for this one-of-a-kind birthday celebration. Colorful balloon clusters, paper fans in green, yellow, and orange, and pulsing disco lights filled the space with energy from the moment residents arrived. Animal-themed hats and headbands were the dress code, with lion crowns, frog ears, and pink animal headbands making for an unforgettable crowd.

A DJ kept the music going as staff danced with residents, bringing the party directly to each person. One resident clutched a Kermit the Frog plush toy all evening, perfectly capturing the spirit of the night. It was loud, colorful, joyful, and exactly the kind of birthday bash everyone deserves.

The Tryon Shop: Browse, Pick, and Take It

The Tryon Shop was open, and residents came ready to browse. Clothing racks lined with jackets, dresses, shirts, and pants in a range of sizes filled the room alongside a table stocked with jewelry, bracelets, rings, and personal care items. Staff helped residents sort through the racks, holding up options and offering their honest opinions. Residents walked away with bags full of new clothes and accessories, a simple pleasure that meant a great deal.

This month reminded us that the best moments at Fort Tryon don’t always come from grand gestures. Sometimes it’s a tearful hug at a retirement party, a Kermit toy at a jungle bash, or finding the perfect jacket at the Tryon Shop. The little things add up, and here they always count.
