Zumba sessions, Bingo showdowns, ink blots, and sensory tubes — this month’s activities kept residents on their toes in the best possible way. Here’s a look at what everyone got up to.
Zumba: Dance Like Nobody’s Watching
The Zumba sessions at Fort Tryon are anything but low-key. A high-energy instructor dressed in all black took center stage, leading residents through upbeat routines that had arms flying and spirits soaring. The sessions traveled across different floors of the facility, bringing the music and movement directly to residents wherever they were. With nearly the entire room raising their hands in unison at certain moments, the energy in the room was impossible to miss.
Bingo Winners: Luck Was in the Air

Bingo at Fort Tryon comes with real stakes and real winners. Residents competed with focus and determination, green bingo cards in hand, waiting for their numbers to be called. One resident crowned herself queen of the day, sporting a sparkling tiara as she showed off her winning card. Others held out their palms to receive their coin prizes, grinning from ear to ear. It was friendly competition at its finest.
Sensory Stimulation: Touch, Feel, Explore
Squeeze Sensory Tubes, colorful gel-filled tubes in zigzag, spiral, and wavy patterns, were handed out for a hands-on sensory activity. Residents squeezed, pressed, and examined each tube with genuine curiosity and concentration. One resident explored his green tube while holding a beloved teddy bear close, a small but touching detail that captured the warmth of the moment.
Ink Blot: What Do You See?
Classic Rorschach-style ink blot cards made for a lively and imaginative session. Residents studied the black symmetrical shapes closely, pointing out what they saw and sharing their interpretations. One resident held his card up and examined it from every angle, while another leaned back and studied hers from above. It was a simple activity that sparked real conversation and creativity.
These activities are a reminder that engagement comes in all shapes and sizes at Fort Tryon. From dancing to thinking to simply feeling something new in your hands, every session brought something worth showing up for.
