Administrator Michael Karash, LNHA

Michael is a native to Washington Heights where he studied locally a Yeshiva University and graduated with a MSW, becoming a Licensed Social Worker.

  • As a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator in NY & NJ, Michael has almost 20 yrs experience in Long Term Health Care Administration.
  • Additionally, he has served on NYSHFA (NYS Health Facilities Association) Ethics & Standards Committee and was Selected to participate in NYSHFA’s Foundation for Quality Care – Advanced Administrator’s training.
  • Michael is a  member of the Greater NY Health Care Association and a Former Adjunct Professor of Gerontology at Long Island University (LIU).
  • Michael loves sports and serves as a Little League Baseball Coach.

Director of Nursing Iyabo Yusuf

Ms. Yusuf comes to the Fort Tryon team with over 35 years of Nursing experience. She is a Registered Nurse who has a Bachelor of Science degree, with a major in Community Health & Human Services. She has a certificate in Infection Control, as well as counseling, and is a member of the Association for Professional Infection Control. She loves teaching & has extensive experience in inservicing & educating staff. She is passionate about her residents & goes out of her way to listen and advocate for the residents & their families.

Iyabo loves finding creative ways to volunteer and is passionate about contributing to her community. In her spare time (when she has any) you might catch her doing some yoga.

Renee Fishweicher Fort Tryon Director of Rehabilitation

  • Doctor of Physical Therapy.
  • Renee graduated Hunter College School of Health Sciences in 1978 with a BS degree in Physical therapy and a Masters degree in Exercise physiology/Cardiac rehabilitation  from Queens College in 1995.
  • She received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Dominican College in 2012.
  • Renee is a member of the APTA  and participated in APTA task force in Virginia in 2001.

Director of Social Services Aliza Clair, LMSW

Aliza Clair is a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) with a certificate in Gerontology. As a student at Wurzweiler School of Social Work, Aliza realized the impact that the field could have on the lives of the geriatric population. After interning at Fort Tryon as a social work student, Aliza knew she wanted to pursue a career path in Nursing Homes and Rehab Centers. Aliza has worked in healthcare since 2015 and rejoined the Fort Tryon team in the beginning of 2018. With her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Social Work, Aliza is able to help the Fort Tryon residents navigate any new milestones that come their way. From student to social worker to Director of Social Services, Aliza is proud to be a member of the Fort Tryon family.

Melissa Papir, Clinical Dietician

Melissa Papir is a registered dietitian and graduated with a master’s in nutrition sciences from Queens College (CUNY) in 2016. Prior to Fort Tryon Center, she served as the food service/clinical dietitian in Essex County Hospital Center in Cedar Grove, NJ, working with psychiatric patients and assessing their nutritional needs. In addition to her current role as clinical dietitian at Fort Tryon Center, she contributes nutritional education to local newspapers and blogs, fulfilling her entwined love for nutrition and writing. She is also a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and writes for their blog site as well.

Jessica Sullivan Director of Recreation Fort Tryon Center

Jessica Sullivan, Director of Recreation

Jessica Sullivan has always had a passion for working with the senior population. Jessica began volunteering in her neighborhood nursing home when she was only 7 years old! At her first job, Jessica started as a recreation assistant and her talents were obvious to all. Within a short time, she was promoted to Assistant Director.

When the position of Director of Recreation was offered to Jessica, she immediately fell in love with her new responsibilities. During her tenure, Jessica has brought incredibly creative ideas to Fort Tryon. Among her many achievements were to have annual senior “proms”, Zumba classes, Tai Chi, art therapy, pet therapy, travelling zoo, computer classes & much more!

When not hard at work, Jessica can be found volunteering for Brown Paper Bag which provides food and clothing for the City’s homeless population.

Together with her team she continues making a difference in the lives of those who need it most!
