Recently, we conducted a Sensory Stimulation program for the seniors here at Fort Tryon. In Sensory Stimulation, we use everyday objects to awaken the senses in order to evoke positive feelings and memories. This form of therapy is normally used for people who have Alzheimer’s.
For seniors, this form of therapy is intended to bring happiness and reduce their anxiety and stress. This is also to help them become more sociable among their peers. Despite it being aimed at the seniors, our staff are properly equipped and trained to do this. Our residents are able to share their experience with them, which can bring back memories they remember fondly.
